OUR FLUTES

As you may have noticed... there are quite a number of flute-makers producing various versions of the Native American style flute. When looking at my flutes, the first questions everyone asks me are always, “I love the natural look of your flutes, but how do they play? Do they sound as good as flutes made from lumber on a power lathe etc, etc.? They also want to know what makes my flutes truly unique and different… Well, here is my attempt to answer those questions for you…

Playing Amazing Grace on the NAF at a funeral
My flutes are first a labor of love for me. I probably gifted over 200 flutes before I ever sold one. I am passionate about the selection of the my woods. I only make flutes from 100% natural SouthWestern Desert woods and cane. My favorite woods for the Native American Style flute are Yucca stalks, Agave stalks, and the Giant Cane grasses that grow here in the SouthWestern deserts. Each flute is carefully handcrafted with minimal use of power tools and in many cases, no power tools ever touch a flute. The birds sitting on top of my flutes are also made of natural materials, my personal favorite is the tip of a deer or elk antler. When I starting doing this, no other makers were offering antler birds… so it is one of my signatures.

I have been playing these natural desert wood flutes for so long that most machine-produced flutes made from lumber sound too “tight” to me now. I love the natural “warm” smooth tone of these Arizona Love Flutes and I think you will too. Every time I put a flute in the shipping carton, I am sad to see it go… they all have such unique character that I want to keep them all since no two are ever the same.
